    Why Use StudyPro’s AI Detector?

One document-level score provides limited context. StudyPro shows which paragraphs contain stronger AI-writing signals and explains why they may have been flagged, so this AI checker gives you something you can act on.

    Paragraph-level likelihood scores

The individual paragraphs of an essay will receive their own AI score, rather than the document as a whole. This means you can see which portion of the essay the score is for.

    Reasons behind flagged passages

The flagged paragraphs also include a brief description of what the AI detector found, so you aren't left wondering why a paragraph was flagged.

    Review of mixed drafts

Many drafts combine original writing with AI-assisted passages. Paragraph-level scores help distinguish sections with stronger AI-writing signals from those that appear more consistent with human writing.

Built for text from today's models

AI detection tools try to find out if certain characteristics commonly found in AI-written texts (e.g. ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini) are present, rather than figuring out which specific model wrote the text.

Detection and editing in one workspace

Scan the text and revise it in the same place — nothing to export, no second app to open.

    Signals, not verdicts

Every score is a likelihood, not a verdict. The detector shows how your text looks statistically; the judgment about your paper stays with you.

How to Use StudyPro’s AI Detector

Use the report one paragraph at a time. The score is most useful when you read it alongside the explanation for each flagged passage.

    1

    Paste or upload your text

Paste your text or upload a file. Alternatively, click on Load Sample Text to view the report without having to upload your own document.

    2

    Run the AI check

StudyPro analyzes writing patterns throughout the submitted text and returns paragraph-level results that can be reviewed individually.

    3

    Review paragraph-level results

Read the likelihood score and the reasoning behind it, one paragraph at a time.

    4

    Revise responsibly

Use the results to sharpen your argument, develop thin ideas, and make sure the writing reflects your own thinking.

How to Interpret Your AI Detection Results

The score shows how closely the text resembles AI-generated writing. It signals resemblance only; it cannot establish who wrote something. Paragraph-level scores are most useful for locating the passages that deserve a closer look.

Detection fails in both directions. Human writing can be flagged as AI, particularly formal prose, tightly structured essays, and work by non-native English speakers. AI writing can slip through, especially after heavy editing. Scores shift with text length, structure, language, how much the draft was revised, and which model produced it.

Read the score alongside everything else you have: earlier drafts, comments, research notes, the assignment brief, and your institution's AI policy. For instructors, a score should never be the sole basis for an allegation of misconduct — treat it as the start of a conversation.

    How AI Detection Works

A language model writes by picking a likely next word, over and over. Across a few hundred words that habit leaves traces — phrasing that runs a little too predictably, sentences that settle into a similar shape and length, transitions that show up right on cue. An AI writing detector looks at how those traces combine, not at any one of them alone.

    • Word and phrase predictability
    • Sentence structure
    • Variation in sentence length
    • Vocabulary distribution
    • Transitions and repetition
    • Patterns across individual paragraphs

StudyPro returns a score for every paragraph in the essay, so the AI content detector says more than a single essay-level number can. Paragraph scores show which sections pushed the document average up, and they let you compare a flagged paragraph directly against one that was not flagged.

The presence of AI writing patterns can be suggestive, but they are not proof of authorship. No system can prove authorship.

AI Detection for Students and Academic Writing

AI detectors are a helpful post-drafting tool. Students can use the detector to get feedback on their writing and make improvements to their papers before final submission.

    Essays before submission

After you finish the essay, run it through and ask yourself whether there is a paragraph that is more generic than the rest.

    Research papers and literature reviews

Summary-heavy sections often read flat. Paragraph scores point to the places where your own analysis has dropped out.

    Lab reports and technical writing

Most methodology sections follow a conventional structure, so the detector will often flag them for that reason alone. Using StudyPro's paragraph-level breakdown helps you understand why certain parts of the paper have been flagged.

Passages needing more of your reasoning

Flagged sections may be places where description outweighs analysis. Reviewing them can help you identify where more specific reasoning or evidence is needed.

    Mixed drafts

If your course allows AI for drafting or revision, a detector shows you how much of that assistance survived into the final paper.

Understanding how a draft may be read

Some instructors and institutions use AI detection systems, so reviewing how your draft may be interpreted can provide useful context.

Whatever a detector reports, your instructor's and institution's AI policies are what count. A low score does not automatically make work original, ethical, or compliant with course rules. Evaluate the result against your assignment requirements and institution’s AI policy.

    AI Detector vs. Plagiarism Checker

These are two separate functions. A document can return a clean score from one checker but a flagged score from another. Students may use both tools because they answer different questions: the AI detector estimates AI-writing patterns, while the plagiarism checker identifies possible problems with citations and source overlap.

Detect, Review and Revise in One Workspace

What to do about a high score depends on your goals and the assignment rules. Flagged text can be edited without leaving StudyPro: Grammar Checker, Paraphraser, and Smart Editor all open in the same workspace, so nothing needs exporting.

What AI Detectors Can — and Cannot — Tell You

    AI detectors can help you

    • Locate passages with patterns commonly associated with AI writing
    • Help you review a mixed draft more efficiently
    • Identify sections that may need clearer reasoning or a more personal voice
    • Start a conversation about how a text was created

    AI detectors cannot

    • Prove who wrote a passage
    • Guarantee that human writing will never be flagged
    • Guarantee that all AI-generated writing will be detected
    • Replace drafts, revision history, source notes, or human review
    • Determine whether AI use complied with a particular course policy

    AI Detector FAQs

    How accurate are AI detectors?

No detector is foolproof. A result reflects how closely your writing resembles known AI output, so every report is probabilistic rather than conclusive. Accuracy also shifts with text length, writing style, language, and editing history, so treat any score as one data point rather than proof.

Can human-written text be incorrectly flagged as AI?

Yes. False positives are most common in very formal or template-driven writing and in work by second-language writers. When a paragraph is flagged, it means it is similar to a common AI pattern, not that it was written by AI.

Why does my own writing appear AI-generated?

The most likely reason is predictability: the length of the sentences, the flow of transitions, and the language itself. For example, this can often be seen when writing about methods, reviews, or definitions. You might receive a different score if you add some analysis and specifics to your writing.

What does the StudyPro AI score mean?

The score shows how likely it is that the text has AI-writing characteristics. You can view reports for each individual paragraph to check which sections of your document may have AI-generated text. Low scores reflect text that is more likely human-written; high scores reflect text that exhibits stronger AI-writing patterns. None of this indicates authorship.

Can the AI detector identify mixed human and AI-written text?

The per-paragraph scoring system was designed specifically for mixed drafts: each paragraph receives a score, allowing you to determine which sections show AI-writing patterns and which do not. Not all AI-assisted content will be flagged; this varies according to how much editing has occurred.

Which AI models and languages are supported?

The detector analyzes language patterns rather than trying to identify a specific model. It is designed to recognize patterns commonly found in outputs from leading models such as ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini, but it cannot determine which model produced a passage. Results are generally less informative for very short samples and may vary by language.

How much text should I submit for a useful result?

Longer passages give the analyzer more to work with. A couple of sentences rarely produces a useful result, while an essay, a section, or several paragraphs yields scores you can compare against each other.

What is the difference between an AI detector and a plagiarism checker?

An AI detector estimates whether a passage contains patterns associated with AI-generated writing. A plagiarism checker looks for passages that resemble previously published material. The two tools answer different questions, so many students run both.

Is my submitted text stored or used to train AI models?

For information about how submitted text is stored, processed and deleted, see the StudyPro Privacy Policy. Documents in your library remain under your control and can be deleted from your account.

Can I try the AI detector before choosing a plan?

New users receive 50 trial credits to explore StudyPro’s AI Detector and other writing tools. Continued or higher-volume use requires a paid plan. See the pricing page for current plan allowances.

What makes StudyPro's AI detector different?

In addition to the paragraph-level breakdown, which provides a short explanation of each flagged paragraph, the editing tools sit in the same workspace. From the flagged paragraphs, you can go right to editing them using the grammar checker, paraphraser, or Smart Editor. There is no need to export the original text to revise it.
